Jersey City Museum

The mission of the Jersey City Museum is to present, collect, and interpret American visual art and material culture of the highest quality. The museum places particular emphasis on exhibiting and supporting the work of contemporary artists who represent the diversity of our society, and on preserving and making accessible the art and the historical and industrial objects of significance to the region in its collections. Through its exhibition, educational initiatives, and public programs, the museum serves as a center of cultural life for the people of Jersey City, Hudson County and the region.

Collections:
Our Permanent Collection is comprised of more than 20,000 objects of regionally significant art and historical objects, and important 20th century acquisitions. The Collection includes over 300 paintings and works on paper by local illustrator and landscape painter August Will (1834-1910), as well as drawings, paintings, prints, photographs, maps, textiles, decorative arts and industrial objects. The museum's commitment to showing the work of both emerging and established artists has helped build our reputation as a force for contemporary art in New Jersey.

Jersey City Museum presents scholarly programs and performances that interpret themes from our exhibitions, permanent collection and mission statement. Each series is created to provide insight into an area of professional or cultural practice.
