Isaiah Davenport House Museum
The mission of the Isaiah Davenport House Museum is to preserve and interpret the American Federal-style house, and the artifacts within, built by master builder Isaiah Davenport for his household with an emphasis on the years 1820-27, in order to educate, enrich and inspire our visitors and the community, as well as recognize the historical role of the house in the founding of Historic Savannah Foundation.
Collections:
Approximately 700 objects, including furniture, ceramics, lighting devices, metals, textiles, books, and other household ephemera dating from the early 19th century as well as remains from an archeological dig on the site; Collections Management Policy, Furnishings Plan, use of PastPerfect collections management software.

• Architectural features: Exterior including fine cast iron work; Interior including exceptional ornamental plaster work, marble fireplaces, and cantilever staircase;
• The Davenport House has been described as one of the finest examples of Federal architecture in America (p. 46, J. Berendt, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil).
• The Davenport House is on the National Register of Historic Places
• The Davenport House was surveyed in the 1930s by architects with the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and those drawing are housed in the Library of Congress and can be accessed on the internet.
• Recent restoration and quality preservation
• Authentic period interiors including documented wallpaper, window treatments and flooring
• Court-yard garden with refinements made by renowned English landscape designer Penelope Hobhouse

10 a.m. with last tour starting at 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 1 p.m. with last tour starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday
Closed: New Year's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day; closes at 1 p.m. on the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve |
