EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular/Full-time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Collections and Exhibitions, the Manager of Exhibitions serves as a project manager for temporary special exhibitions, collection rotations, and traveling exhibitions within the context of the High’s robust exhibition program, overseeing and implementing all aspects of the planning process. All duties will be approached in a manner consistent with the High’s commitment to growth, inclusivity, collaboration and connectivity.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Exhibition Planning:

Prepares and implements exhibition timelines, guiding the planning process simultaneously for several exhibitions at various stages of development. (45%)

  • Participates in exhibition proposal review and evaluation and moves exhibitions through the approval process.
  • Develops project timelines and works with exhibition curator, design and installation teams in the completion of all phases of exhibition planning and execution.
  • Schedules and leads planning meetings, create agendas, and follow-up on action items related to exhibition planning.
  • Manages accurate database of objects for tracking exhibition.
  • Works with relevant staff to determine lenders’ specifications for conservation, packing and shipping, courier, insurance, installation and security requirements.

Communications:

Establishes communications, generates positive relations, tracks information and follows through on arrangements with lenders, artists, participating venues, contractors, and relevant staff members (45%)

  • Drafts, negotiates and executes exhibition-related agreements with third parties in consultation with the Director of Collections and Exhibitions and General Counsel.
  • Working with curators, solicits and schedules venues for High-organized traveling exhibitions.
  • Generates preliminary and official loan letters and tracks loan negotiations.
  • Coordinates museum, Woodruff Arts Center and vendors in relation to the exhibition. throughout the installation and de-installation process. 
  • Disseminates exhibition information to museum departments and reviews printed materials for all departments for consistency and quality.

Departmental:

Supervise departmental staff and the inter-departmental activities related to the Exhibitions Department. (10%)

  • Prepares budgets and reviews reports with CFO and Director of Collections and Exhibitions.
  • Receives, distributes, and drafts responses to external exhibition proposals. Maintains a database of exhibition proposals in order to track responses and statuses. 
  • Assists with preparations for Exhibitions Committee meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of museum and administration experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional project management and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a collaborative environment with museum staff and leadership, lenders, artists, vendors and other museum professionals.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of museum practice.
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office 365; TMS and Work Day preferred.
