Head of Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning Programs

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Education, the Head of Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning Programs is charged with engaging a diverse population of new and existing adult audiences with the High Museum of Art. This position develops and delivers a comprehensive suite of relevant, inclusive, creative, and participatory arts programs specifically designed for a growing older adult audience from empty nesters to retirees. The Head of Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning Programs oversees all aspects of program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation for this initiative. The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader, audience focused, strategic, creative, highly organized, and has extensive experience with adult program planning and logistics.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
  • Some Evenings and weekends as needed

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Program Development and Delivery 

  • Develops, executes and evaluates a robust year-round menu of mission driven programs that meet the needs of older adults in the Atlanta community.
  • Employs a universal design approach to museum education ensuring that programmatic experiences are designed with inclusion in mind.
  • Ensures that programs are planned and executed in a manner that reflects the High Museum’s quality standards and align with the High’s core values of Growth, Inclusivity, Collaboration and Connectivity.
  • Manages program planning, logistics, schedules, Materials and recordkeeping.
  • Develops and teaches classes, courses, and workshops as needed.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with colleagues in Marketing, Membership and Guest Relations to promote creative aging and lifelong learning programs and reach museum audience targets and achieve projected attendance and revenue goals.
  • Analyzes data to determine prospective users, audiences and potential funding sources for programming and partnerships.
  • Evaluates creative aging and lifelong learning programs produced by the Museum and our partnerships to assess quality and determine improvements needed in production and presentation of programs.
  • Prepares grant project narratives and reports collaboration with the Development team.
  • Manages and tracks program expense budget grant funds, and earned revenue goals.

Leadership and Interpersonal Relations 

  • Develops a vision and a multi-year plan for creative aging and lifelong learning that aligns with the High’s educational and institutional goals of engaging an older adult population that is representative of Atlanta’s Diversity.
  • Evaluates the return on investment and mission value of all creative aging and lifelong learning educational offerings.
  • Develops community partnership strategies to enhance adult learning and expand the audience for this program.
  • Develops and maintains a string network of community organizations, artist, scholars, and professionals of art, art history, film, design, architecture, and fields related to the High Museums collection and special exhibitions in alignment with institutional objectives.
  • Represents the High to increase institutional visibility and participation in the community
  • Participates in national and international dialogue about creative aging and lifelong learning museums. Remains aware and informed about current creative aging and lifelong learning research and best practices.

Supervision and Training

  • Recruits, trains, stewards, and evaluates a roster of instructors with subject matter expertise
  • Supervises and trains volunteers and staff who support creative aging and lifelong learning programs

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree (M.A) in art history, Museum Education or art education and 5- 7 years’ experience in community partnerships and adult programming in the visual arts; or
  • B.A. in art history or art Education and 10-12 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
