The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University

Home to Auburn University's permanent collection of American and European art, the museum includes eight exhibition galleries, gift shop, café, auditorium, and a series of formal gardens.

Collections:
A significant aspect of the museum's permanent collection are the 36 painintgs and drawings that constitute the Museum's "Advancing American Art Collection." Purchased by Auburn University in 1948 in what has been called "the art bargain of the century," the collection had been amassed two years earlier by the State Department and was intended to tour Europe and Latin America as a demonstration of the finest in American art at mid-century. The collection includes such well known figures of the mid-century American art scene as John Marin, Georgia O'Keefe, Ben Shahn, Arthur Dove, Ralston Crawford, Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden.

The Louise Hauss and David Brent Miller Audubon Gallery is specially designed to complement the museum's Audubon Collection. The museum's Louise Hauss and David Brent Miller Audubon Collection comprises one of the most complete and finest collections by the noted 19th century naturalist, and selections from this collection are on contiuous exhibit.

In 2004 JCSM acquired the Bill L. Harbert Collection of European Art. This collection of European art features six works by Marc Chagall, three by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, two by Salvador Dali, and one each by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and Henri Matisse.

In addition to exhibiting its own permanant collection, JCSM offers a varied and rich program of visiting exhibitions.
